International SOS, the world’s leading medical and security risk services company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE to strengthen cooperation and partnership in providing health care services to UAE nationals abroad.
The MOU was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation by His Excellency Faisal Issa Lotfy, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry for Consular Affairs and by Kathy Brett, General Manager, Europe Middle East, International SOS, and in the presence of a number of officials from both parties.
Under this MOU International SOS will assist with the coordination and provision of medical consultations and critical case management for UAE nationals who fall ill or are injured while travelling, living or working overseas. For those nationals receiving medical treatment or hospital care, International SOS will advise on and make referrals to in-country medical facilities and plan for onward movement including repatriation to the UAE, as required.
Medical advice and assistance will be coordinated by our Operations team in Dubai, in collaboration with 27 best-in-class Assistance Centres around the world. These are supported by 13,000 multi-cultural security, medical, logistics and digital experts from over 1,000 locations in 90 countries, 24/7, 365 days of the year. Our global network includes over 100,000 rigorously audited and accredited health providers.
Kathy Brett, Regional General Manager, Europe Middle East, International SOS said:
We are honoured to have been chosen as a strategic health partner to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the UAE. As protecting and saving lives is our core purpose, we are pleased to be able to extend our extensive medical and logistics expertise to the people of the UAE.
This MOU builds on the medical advice and support International SOS has provided to the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention and the UAE Armed Forces over the last five years through our dedicated subsidiary, Iqarus. It is intended to support the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in accelerating the provision of medical services and care for UAE nationals abroad.
International SOS is very well placed to deliver medical advice and assistance services. In 2021, we managed over three million assistance calls across our global network of in-country Assistance Centres and coordinated over 3,000 medical and security evacuations globally.
